Welcome to Emergent Imagination. By visiting or using this website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please don’t use the site.

The short version

Different aspects of this site carry different rights: the artworks are licensed under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0, the “created by humans, for humans” badge is public domain (CC0), and everything brand-related is all rights reserved. When in doubt, the default is all rights reserved, unless specified on the specific item itself.

Intellectual property & licensing

The artworks. The works we publish here are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). In short: you are free to share and adapt them for non-commercial purposes, as long as you credit Emergent Imagination, link the license, note any changes, and share your adaptations under the same license. Each work carries its own license notice; in instances where an individual work carries a different license, that notice controls. The binding terms are in the license legal code.

The brand. The name “Emergent Imagination”™, the Emergent Imagination logo and wordmark, our “Hexanguage” symbols (a set of 26 original symbols we designed and use as art throughout our brand and work, along with the “Hexanguage” name and the font that delivers them), and the overall look and feel of this site are our brand assets. They are not covered by any Creative Commons license and are all rights reserved.

“Emergent Imagination,” the logo, the wordmark, and “Hexanguage” are trademarks of Emergent Imagination. The “Hexanguage” symbols are original works of art and both the symbols themselves and the font software that delivers them are protected by copyright. The artwork in our logo is also protected by copyright. We don’t claim any alphabet, language, or simple shape, only our own original designs. The license on the artworks gives you no right to use these brand assets, please do not use them to suggest we made, endorse, or are affiliated with any of your work; in your domains, social handles, or product names; in altered or recolored form; or passed off as your own without our written permission.

The for humans badge. We’ve placed the “created by humans, for humans” badge into the public domain under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Use it freely, for any purpose, with no permission or credit required.

Using the site

Beyond the rights the licenses above grant you, please use the site lawfully and in good faith: don’t try to disrupt, break, or gain unauthorized access to it; don’t scrape or bulk download it in ways that the artwork license doesn’t allow; and don’t remove or alter any copyright, license, or attribution notices. Nothing here takes away the rights the Creative Commons licenses give you in the artworks or the badge.

The Connect form

Our Connect form simply emails your message to us (through our forms provider, Netlify). Please don’t send confidential or sensitive information through it. For how we handle what you send, see our Privacy Policy.

Links to other sites

This site links to third-party sites (for example, our social profiles and the Creative Commons pages). We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content or practices.

Disclaimer

The site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or accurate.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Emergent Imagination will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of your use of (or inability to use) the site or its content. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be handled in the courts located in Texas.
